Article from Metro Pulse - Knoxville's Alternative Voice - June 3 - June 17, 1994 "Tape O' The Month" Miss Lucy's House by Marianne Paluso Knoxville-based folk singer Marianne Paluso has established herself as a fixture in regional traditional music venues like the Bluebird Café in Nashville and events like Jonesborough Days and the Mountain Music Festival in Pipestem, W.Va. Her new self-produced cassette Miss Lucy's House is the ideal souvenir for any fan who's had the chance to see her live, and the perfect primer for those who haven't. Paluso writes and plays new folk music for traditional instruments, from guitar to the haunting psaltery. Her voice suits its accompaniment so well, you can almost imagine it coming from a handmade folk instrument - some wind-worn, knotty elbow of loblolly carved out and strund with bronze and played with a bow. Like Joni Mitchell the way she might have sounded right after her voice changed in junior high. Paluso's lyrics are another story, and don't really lend themselves to comparison. There's spiritual searching like you might find on early Bruce Cockburn, the rural sentimentality of John McCutcheon, and romantic elegy worthy of James Taylor. But all are woven together seamlessly. On songs like "Special Season of Time" and "Big City Dreams", Paluso's passion, praise, and occasional quizzical longing are simultaneously focused and universal. The tape is available at local record stores, or you can order one by calling 865-693-6671. Miss Lucy's House ~ $10.00 + $2.50 s/h = $12.50
